This group covers the non-Asian restaurants, cafes, bars and food businesses that also appear in a mixed-cuisine food scene, including American diners, pizza, Mexican food, burgers, steakhouses and bakeries. Standard US restaurant norms apply: lunch and dinner service with a quieter stretch between, cards and tap-to-pay accepted almost everywhere, and a tip of 15-20% customary for table service. Fast food and quick-service counters expect payment up front and tipping is optional. Bars check ID for anyone who looks under 30, and the drinking age is 21 nationwide. Many restaurants in this group take reservations online through third-party platforms, while casual and fast-food spots are walk-in only. Sales tax is added at the register on top of the menu price and varies by city and state, so the final total is usually a few percent higher than the posted prices suggest.

Utica is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Utica is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across New York's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

I ordered the vodka chicken sandwich several times while we were camping at the fair, and each time I had greens added to it. It was excellent, and I liked it enough that when family came into town from Maryland, I specifically told them how good it was and took them over to try it. The four of us walked over, and whoever was in charge that day told me they donβt make it that way, wouldnβt make it that way, and essentially insisted that I had never been getting it with greens before. I know what I ordered and ate multiple times. Instead of simply accommodating a pretty basic request, I was basically treated like I was making it up. All four of us walked away without ordering. Really disappointing experience, especially after I had been telling my family how good the food was.

Super food!! Our server was super friendly and helpful! I ordered "whatever is the Utica thing on your menu", and was suggested the chicken riggy....super! Very flavorful and hot! Bread was hot and tasty. My Utica Club beer cold and relish!

We were in from out of town this weekend for a family gathering. We settled on Itβs a Utica Thing, because the menu had something for everyone, and we wanted to get a lot of food for the seven of us and share it all. The arancini was probably the best Iβve had. The Caesar dressing was homemade and phenomenal. The spaghetti, carbonara and bolognese were all delicious as well. Almost everything was top notch. My only gripe would be that the tomato pie was quite thin and not a focaccia-like dough that I have found in the past in Utica. That is a small detail though because the flavors were well done. Also, five stars to Jessica W. for such good service. She was patient with us, and helped us navigate the menu. The service here was solid all around.

Itβs a Utica Thing is an amazing restaurant that offers delectable food, affordable prices, and an amazing atmosphere. The chicken parm and calamari is spectacular! I highly recommend purchasing the marinara sauce to share the exquisite flavors with your friends and family. It is the type of restaurant that you want to keep coming back to over and over again. I cannot recommend Itβs a Utica Thing enough!

First time here. Not impressed at all. The place has a nice atmosphere. Restrooms clean. Bar was active. Our waitress was very pretty. But service was poor. She described the specials as very good but no price or description. She never asked if we wanted a drink. Had to ask twice for a takeout container. We both ordered chicken riggies because folks raved about the homemade pasta. It is not our favorite riggie dish at all. These wouldn't crack the top 10. The sauce wasn't creamy at all. Peppers were good. Very few pieces of chicken. The serving size was meager as well, we normally see much larger portions. The chicken had an odd coating. The meal was $20 and came without a salad or bread. Although there was a bread plate on the table. Honestly, our waitress should seek another line of work. We won't be back. Utica has loads of better places to dine. Two stars for food and service. Three stars for atmosphere.
